Ca Pantothenate 300mg 60's
Pantothenic acid (vitamin B-5) was discovered by a pioneer in nutrition RogerWilliams in 1919. Being essential to all forms of life Pantothenic acid is foundthroughout living cells in the form of coenzyme A (CoA), a vital coenzyme in numerouscellular chemical reactions. One important function is to assist turning carbohydratesand fats into usable energy. As its use in the body is so widespread, a short fallof Ca Pantothenate can affect nearly all biochemical functions.
Small quantities of pantothenic acid are found in most foods. The major foodsource of pantothenic acid is in meats, although the concentration found in animalmuscle tissue is only about half the amount that is found in human muscle tissue.Milling often removes much of the pantothenic acid from whole grains. Broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, avocados, crimini and shiitake mushrooms provide an excellentfood source. The most significant food source though is cold water fish ovariesand royal jelly.

Benefits and how it works:
Pantothenic acid, a B-vitamin, is essential for normal physiological functions. It is a precursor of coenzyme A (CoA) and acyl, a carrier protein of fatty acidsynthase, which are involved in more than 100 different metabolic pathways includingenergy metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids, and the synthesis of lipids, neurotransmitters, steroid hormones, porphyrins and haemoglobin.
Osteoarthritis
Clinical improvements of osteoarthritis have been reported with 12mg pantothenicacid daily as pantothenic acid is involved in cartilage growth.
Adrenal function
Various nutrients are useful in supporting and enhancing adrenal function, particularlyduring times of stress. Atrophy or shrinking of the adrenal cortex is a common sideeffect of continual stress, cortisone administration and gaining. Due to the importanceof the adrenal gland, optimum health is dependent on optimum adrenal function. VitC, Vit B-6, zinc magnesium and pantothenic acid are necessary nutrients for themanufacture of hormones by the adrenal glands. Supplementation of all these nutrientsat higher than RDA levels may be appropriate during high periods of stress or whenadrenal support is needed. Pantothenic acid is particularly important for optimumadrenal functioning as a deficiency results in adrenal atrophy, characterised byfatigue, headache, sleep disturbances, nausea and abdominal discomfort. Food sourcesare insufficient in times of acute or chronic stress conditions.
Co-enzyme A
Pantothenic acid is used in the synthesis of coenzyme A (CoA), an essential coenzymein a variety of reactions that sustain life. CoA is required for chemical reactionsthat generate energy from food (fat, carbohydrates, and proteins). The synthesisof essential fats, cholesterol, and steroid hormones requires CoA, as does the synthesisof the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, and the hormone, melatonin. Haem, a componentof haemoglobin, requires a CoA-containing compound for its synthesis. Metabolismof a number of drugs and toxins by the liver requires CoA (3).
Coenzyme A may act as an acyl group carrier to form acetyl-CoA and other relatedcompounds; this is a way to transport carbon atoms within the cell. CoA is importantin energy metabolism for pyruvate to enter the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA cycle)as acetyl-CoA, and for α-ketoglutarate to be transformed to succinyl-CoA in thecycle. CoA is also important in the biosynthesis of many important compounds suchas fatty acids, cholesterol, and acetylcholine
A deficiency produces impaired energy production, due to low CoA levels, whichcould cause symptoms of irritability, fatigue, and apathy. Acetylcholine synthesisis also impaired, producing neurological symptoms including numbness, paraesthesia, and muscle cramps.
Hypoglycaemia
A deficiency in pantothenic acid can also cause hypoglycaemia, or an increasedsensitivity to insulin. Insulin receptors are acylated with palmitic acid when theydo not want to bind with insulin. Therefore, more insulin will bind to receptorswhen acylation decreases, causing hypoglycaemia.
Additional symptoms
- Include restlessness, malaise, sleep disturbances, nausea, vomiting, abdominalcramps, adrenal insufficiency and hepatic encephalopathy.
- Wound healing
- With pantothenic acid there was an increased migration of muscle fiberswhich ran directionally with several layers in an orderly fashion. Cell proliferationor cell multiplication was found to increase.
- Weight management
- It has been hypothesized that when taking the appropriate quantities ofvitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) the effects of hunger, weakness would be easierto manage. Fat storage in times of fasting or dieting requires CoA; with higherlevels of pantothenic acid more Co A is produced.
